clinton-nair-new-kid-on-the-block-sa-junior-9ball-championships-2012   Sunday, 5th August: Deja Vous Monder played host for the first ever South African Junior 9Ball Championships. As the sport is still new in SA, there were only 4 Juniors that participated; Keenan Adams (GP), Clinton Nair (KZN), Zander Kriel (FS) and Anika Malan (NW). The day’s proceedings began with favourite Zander Kriel, up against newcomer, Keenan Adams. Zander had previously been abroad and participated in the World Junior Championships in 2011 and 2010. But it was the youngster Keenan who showed off some of his skills and ran out as winner with a score line of 7-5. This result put a little extra pressure on Zander as it meant he was now on the one loss side. Anika Malan was a no show due to a few logistics issues which meant Clinton Nair progressed straight into the final of the Winners half. His opponent was Keenan Adams, who had just beaten...

nicola-rossouw-makes-clean-sweep   Nicola Rossouw has proved to be a force to be reckoned with amongst the 9ball community in South Africa. She has taken the Women’s category by storm and has won every event held to date in the 2012 season. Her biggest achievements have been the SA Women’s 9Ball & 10 Ball titles which she has won in May and Aug respectively. Earlier this year, Nicola participated in the SA Women’s 9ball Champs and proved too strong for the rest of the field as she went through the double elimination tournament without losing a match. Her opponent in the final was Miss Marina Jacobs, who put on a good show on the day by ousting Apsra Panchoo, former SA 9ball Champion and young Chene Grace, who is a newcomer to 9ball. The final was a little one sided, with Nicola proving too strong and Marina’s potting letting her down at key points in the...

dn   Deja vous Mondeor was the host venue of the 2012 Men’s 9ball Championships which took place on the 19th & 20th May, 2012 and SA9ball had a record turnout of 24 players. There were many new faces that entered and it proved to be an exciting event. The tournament was run on a double elimination format and there were a few good match ups early on in the first round with Moses David up against Zander Kriel. After a nervous start by both, it was Moses David who sent the Junior Zander Kriel to the losers half. There were 2 other good matches, David Anderson vs JK Pillay and Sandile Madlala vs Sbu Gumede. David and Sandile emerged winners with some classy pool and both progressed to the semi finals of the Winners half. David seemed unstoppable and clocked up another win over Peter Robertson in the semi final and 2nd favourite Sandile Madlala dispatched Nicky...

The SA 9Ball executive has taken a decision to send the 4 person team to this event which will comprise 3 Men and 1 Woman. mighty-morake-a-class-above-the-rest Coming into the SA 8Ball Championships, the inform players were undoubtedly Wetsi Morake and Zybnek Vaic, as it was these two players who provided and entertaining final only a week ago at the GP SACCS Games Qualifier. To no surprise, it was once again the mighty Morake who booked his spot in yet another nail-biting finale but this time against the unassuming underdog, Patrick Moodley, who decided to try his luck on the 9 foot table. On route to the final, Wetsi wasted no time in dispatching the new kid on the block, Niki Erasmus 5-2. His second match was upagainst Dino Nair and after a hard fought battle, the SA9ball President succumbed and went down 5-3. On a winning streak, Wetsi came up against Vaic in the semi-final of the winners half and it proved to be a tough affair which Wetsi won 5-4. Reaching the final on the winners side,...

the-sowetan-sniper-stamps-his-authorithy-at-gauteng-saccs-games-qualifier Saturday, 21st January saw Gauteng 9Ball host its qualifier for the Inaugural SACCS Games which is to be held in Sasolburg in just over 2 weeks time. This event attracted a small, but very talented field from all over Gauteng. A total of 8 Players participated and the event was held in a double elimination format whereby each player effectively had 2 lives in the competition. The first round saw two great matches, the first being between Wetsi Morake and Charles Kuppusamy. The match got off to a flyer with both players making great finishes to get on board but it was Charles who upstaged the mighty Morake and claimed the victory with a 5-3 score-line. The second of the big first round matches saw Vaic take on Alphonse Hoge. It was Vaic who seemed the aggressor early on and took an early 2-0 lead. Alphonse had his chances in the following frames...

sylvester-sly-henry-clinches-kzn-9ball-spot-at-saccs-games Last weekend saw the first official 9Ball competition which was hosted by Hot Shots Pool Academy in KZN. This event was the qualifier for the inaugural SACCS Games which is scheduled to take place on 4th & 5th February in Gauteng. The event drew in 21 players and boasted some prominent Provincial Blackball players namely Vinay Naidoo, Raveen Kalideen & Luke Daniels and also South African caps in Doc Madurai (Veterans) and Wandile Tshabalala (u23). The local players from Hot Shots had been spending a lot of table time in preparation for this event and were looking for one of their players to emerge victorious. As the tournament progressed it proved to be a nightmare for some of the favourites as they fell short in the early rounds. The semi finals featured Sylvester Henry, Vasen Naidoo and a father son combo in Luke Daniels and Laaiq Daniels. In the first semi-final, Sylvester Henry took...
